“In Honor of Black History Month”

A poem from The Small Blades Hurt…

The early blooming Daphne is the best
Part for the black people in Idaho
If there are black people in Idaho.
And, winter moves, deciduous as rest.

And transitory as a breeze, the mouth…
Of every wide pink bloom digests the air,
Its cold jet stream falling to grasses where,
Between the teeth, songs vibrate in the south.
